Jerry Herman: The Broadway Legacy Concert

Spring 2021

In association with The ASCAP Foundation and Spot-On Entertainment, The Cleveland Opera will present Jerry Herman: The Broadway Legacy Concert. The concert (part of a nationwide series of concerts and educational programs) is made possible by revered ASCAP member Jerry Herman. Herman is best-known as the composer/lyricist of the iconic musicals Hello, Dolly!, Mame and La Cage aux Folles. The performance features a cast of New York’s top Broadway and concert stars celebrating the songs and the stories of one of the true giants of the theatre.

Before his death, Mr. Herman established a new ASCAP Foundation award in his name – The ASCAP Foundation Jerry Herman Broadway Legacy Prize. The day before the concert, the opera will host a musical theater performing masterclass for local university and high school students led by the Jerry Herman Broadway performers. Masterclass students will be invited to audition with a Jerry Herman song. One local student will then be selected by a panel of performers and mentors to perform in the concert, and they will receive the Herman Broadway Legacy Prize.
